At this years’ AL-KO’s Toughest Tow Test we had a range of cars fitted with Redarc’s Tow Pro Elite. It’s a big step up on older brake controllers in that it has the ability to brake proportionally to the tow car. This clever solution is created with sophisticated sensors in the main unit.

There is also a manual function and, of course, an override which comes in handy when trailers start to sway. When heading down the steep hills of the Mundi Mundi Plains it really came into it’s own . One of the reasons it is so popular is how compact it is and its ease to install. REDARC sells harnesses that make the Elite almost ‘plug and play’ for most modern SUVs and utes, and plenty of users install their own.

Using the unit is simple. Hook up your trailer, start driving straight and it self-calibrates as you brake. You can see it’s operational by a colour change from blinking green/blue to solid blue. The Tow Pro Elite will also work with AL-KO ESC and Dexter Sway Control, which is a big benefit, as well as with electro-hydraulic brake actuators such as AL-KO IQ7 and 12V or 24V systems.

Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller
RRP $382.45 plus fitting and installation harness (if applicable)
